NYE Balloon Drop with Kids

Ring in the New Year at home with the kids! Create a balloon drop with a couple simple steps. Turn on last years countdown on YouTube and bring the magic into your living room. Happy New Year from the Holland fam and our good friends at 2 Hungry Daughters!

What you’ll need:
1-2 yards of lightweight fabric
Roll of masking tape
20+ festive balloons
confetti *optional

How to make it:
Tulle netting is perfect for this! We could easily see the balloons, making the anticipation suspenseful, and you can still see the tv through the fabric after it falls. My measurements are approximate for my living space, so you can adjust accordingly.

Using masking tape, secure the corners of the fabric to the ceiling, leaving it loose enough so you can easily add balloons along the sides. With a step stool, start filling the net with balloons and confetti (just a heads-up… confetti cleanup can be a workout!).

Next, create two long “tails” with ribbon or a long strand of tape by folding it in half lengthwise so it’s non-sticky. Secure the tails to the front two corners of the fabric. Then, at your chosen countdown (whether midnight or 8 p.m. for the little ones) let the older kids pull the strings to release all the balloons and confetti.

The kids had so much fun playing with the balloons after the big countdown. It’s a simple activity that makes New Year’s Eve feel special for everyone.

Happy Celebrating!
