Lasagna
This hearty, classic lasagna brings together layers of rich meat sauce, creamy ricotta, and gooey melted cheese for the ultimate comfort meal. Using oven-ready noodles keeps it simple, while the blend of ground beef and Italian sausage adds depth and flavor.
What you'll need:
1 box oven-ready lasagna noodles
29 oz canned tomato sauce
1/2 pound ground beef
1/2 pound Italian sausage (spicy or mild)
1/2 yellow onion, diced
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tsp Italian seasoning
1/2 tsp oregano
Pinch of salt
15 oz ricotta
16 oz block mozzarella, hand shredded
1/3 cup freshly grated Parmesan
How to make it:
Start by making the sauce:
Heat a splash of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until softened, about 3–4 minutes.
Add minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
Add ground beef and Italian sausage. Cook until browned, breaking up the meat with a spoon.
Stir in the tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
Reduce heat to low, cover, and let simmer, stirring occasionally.
Preheat the oven to 400° F, and shred all of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses.
Assemble the layers:
Spread a thin layer of sauce on the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish.
Lay down a layer of dry oven-ready noodles.
Spread about 2 tablespoons of ricotta cheese over each noodle.
Sprinkle a layer of mozzarella, then a little Parmesan.
Spoon a small amount of sauce over the cheese.
Repeat the layers (noodles → ricotta → mozzarella → Parmesan → sauce) until you reach the top of the dish.
Optional: Add spinach, mushrooms, or other veggies between layers.
Finish with a final layer of sauce and cheeses on top.
Cover the pan with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
Remove foil, turn the broiler on low, and move the pan to the top rack. Broil just until the cheese turns golden brown—watch closely to avoid burning.
Let the lasagna cool for 10 minutes before slicing.
Serve hot and enjoy!
